This Grade II* listed townhouse, designed by Robert and James Adam, has been the home of the British Veterinary Association since 1953. Manalo & White were engaged in 2017 to carry out a full refurbishment.
The BVA had initially considered relocating to a new office building, due to issues of accessibility, lack of space and antiquated heating, cooling and IT services. However through feasibility studies and consultations with the users and Westminster conservation officers, we developed an approach which meets the organisation’s needs while respecting the beautiful historic fabric of the building. The alterations include new level access, an accessible lift, and provision of new and rationalised office and meeting spaces.
The BVA staff have embraced new ways of working, and now utilise all rooms within the townhouse as they would in their own homes. This encourages chance encounters between the staff and BVA members, council and specialist divisions, resulting in a truly collaborative atmosphere.
