Retail spaces are the smallest things we design, and often the most concentrated: a few square metres in which a brand has to be legible, welcoming and true.
At Gianvito Rossi’s Mayfair boutique, we refined the interior of a listed 19th-century Gothic arcade in collaboration with Studio Urquiola, keeping its apothecary-drawer display cabinets in play. Grosvenor Estates described the result as having “the air of an atelier and the warmth of a salon”. We went on to design the brand’s Harrods concession, and with Patricia Urquiola created the Scholtès showroom on Wigmore Street, winner of a Gold Award for Craftsmanship.
Sometimes retail is a single considered corner: at Towner Eastbourne, we located the gallery shop to one side of the foyer, away from the busier thoroughfare.
