A home has to hold a life: its routines, habits and eccentricities, and keep holding them as that life changes.
At Corduroy House, we remodelled a Victorian townhouse for a stylist, a curator and their two sons, adding a rear extension clad in rugged Welsh slate. At Seabank Cottage on the Norfolk saltmarshes, we rebuilt the ground floor of a flint cottage to withstand periodic flooding from the sea, and lifted the living space upstairs to take in the views.
Apartment for Marc, designed with the artist Marc Camille Chaimowicz, was deliberately left unfinished, with unpainted plaster and trompe-l’oeil skirting, to be completed in occupation. House of Mirrors, in Islington, is an interior lined in mirrors, secreted behind a bookcase.
We make homes which are specific to the people in them, designed from the inside out: not finished objects, but places to be lived in, which become more themselves over time.
