Heathlands School for Deaf Children

Our design for a new classroom building for Heathlands School for deaf children and young people, in collaboration with deaf architect Richard Dougherty; recently submitted for planning approval. Heathlands is the largest deaf school in the UK, offering a Total Communication approach to education, incorporating British Sign Language, Sign Supported English and spoken English. The building is designed to be simple and flexible, to create valuable new teaching space and allow the school to adapt and improve existing facilities.

Unite Whitechapel

On site: a building that spans over and preserves the excavated ruins of a Tudor era playhouse in Whitechapel called The Boar’s Head. Artefacts uncovered during the archeological dig will be displayed within the social spaces we have designed for student and public use. Our scheme for Unite Students encompasses student amenities, workspace, performance, exhibition and community spaces.

Our interior design and curatorial approach references the theatrical history of the site and celebrates the concrete that bridges the ruins. Drawing from artefacts as varied as Tudor moneybox tops used at the Boar’s Head to a 20th century Incredible Hulk figurine, the exhibition will trace the history of the site as a place of theatre, making and changing beliefs from ancient Roman times to the present day.
