We designed DAMU, an elemental, cave-like spa named after the Sumerian god of healing, beside the Mandrake Hotel in Fitzrovia. We shaped the interiors to feel carved from the earth itself.
We combined advanced digital fabrication with artisanal hand-applied finishes, balancing cutting-edge technology with warm, earthy rawness. In the Mud Caves, guests slather themselves with mud from the Austrian Alps, moving between the steam room and carved shower nooks. The Origin Pool is the technical heart: a sealed chamber which recreates the experience of the womb, precisely balancing temperature, zero gravity, salt-water buoyancy, low-frequency vibrations, a projected light show and a drone choir.
We coordinated the intricate technical design and complex fabrication with a large team of specialists, working alongside interior designer Tala Fustok Studio and landscape architect Bas Smets.
The Nudge called DAMU “a pocket of calm with a surprisingly primal edge”.
